A Guide to Using Plastic Packing Straps with Tips
Proper use of strapping tape can reduce the waste of packaging materials, ensuring the tape tightly wraps the goods without loosening or breaking. Choosing the right strapping tape is the first step to achieving effective packaging. Below, Xin Mingyi Packaging shares a guide on how to use plastic strapping tape effectively.
We should select the appropriate specifications of strapping bands based on the weight of the goods. For heavy goods, wider strapping bands should be used, while narrower specifications are suitable for lighter goods. Additionally, attention should be paid to the material of the plastic strapping bands: PP plastic strapping bands (polypropylene) are lightweight, flexible, corrosion-resistant, and have lower tensile strength, making them suitable for lightweight packaging such as cartons, textiles, and panels. PET plastic strapping bands (polyester) offer high strength, impact resistance, and heat resistance, making them ideal for heavy goods such as metals, construction materials, and glass.
Before packing, we need to make some preparations: check whether the strapping belt has cracks, burrs, and whether its width matches the strapping tool. Also, determine if the edges of the goods require paper corner protectors. Once the strapping belt is confirmed to be free of defects and the strapping tool is in normal condition, the operation can begin. During strapping, whether using manual, electric, or pneumatic strapping tools, ensure the belt remains straight to avoid twisting.
For square-shaped goods, use a cross or grid wrapping method, as cross-wrapping can enhance stability; for lighter goods, employ parallel strapping for wrapping. Maintain moderate tension during the packing process, as excessive tightening may cause the strapping to break or damage the goods.
